LEVI is excited to announce our Quarter 4 Training: Domestic Violence in the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) Community.
This training will take place on Wednesday, November 8, 2006 from 8:15 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. in Longmont. The location at Longmont city office is to be decided, dependant on the number of attendees. A final notice will be sent out a few days before the event after all the RSVPs have come in, detailing the exact location.
 
Veronica Garcia, Director of Operations and Community Relations with the Colorado Anti-Violence Program, will be our presenter. The Colorado Anti-Violence Program is dedicated specifically to eliminating violence within and against the LGBT communities. In this presentation, Veronica will be talking about:
  • LGBT - Definitions of homophobia and heterosexism, Important role that language plays in working with LGBT communities, Dynamics of language, Common terminology of LGBT communities
  • LGBT Domestic Violence - Similarities and differences between DV in heterosexual relationships and DV in LGBT relationships, How to respectfully and effectively assess the nature of an intimate relationship, Things to consider when determining a predominant aggressor, Overview of legal issues for LGBT victims of domestic violence, Barriers that complicate access to services for LBGT victims of domestic violence
