Those of us fortunate enough to have a Bookport or a Book Courier are well
used to the doubletalk. From what I understand, it's a relatively
cost-effective synth. And, only in my opinion, it would be a vast
improvement over the current speech in the BN. I have a classic, dating back
to 2000, and not upgraded since then, <guilty grin>, and have just gotten an
MPower. The improvements are staggering! But the speech remains the same. I
think that, if you don't count those times when I made it drive itself
crazy, draining the battery, I've used speech for less than an hour in the
whole five years. If there were an alternative, I'm sure I'd make use of it!
Although, even with a PC and eloquence, which I like a lot, I used a Braille
display almost as much as speech when I had one. I imagine I'd still mostly
use the braille display on the BN, no matter what speech there is. Still,
I'd like to weigh in on the side of having an alternative synth!
