Yes, absolutely.  I just purchased a brand new Toshiba Satellite, and it most 
assuredly has a PCMCIA slot on the left side, and if necessary, my wife can use 
her 
PCMCIA network card to connect to a LAN.  Now, granted there is a LAN 
connection on the back, but sometimes, it is better to use a PCMCIA slot.  The 
cable 
goes in better, and I've found that they sometimes stay connected better than 
my internal network card.  We also have a PCMCIA modem in case the internal 
one goes bad.  If you got a video card for your laptop, that is, an external 
one, wouldn't that be a PCMCIA card?  How about if you need an SCSI interface 
for 
your laptop.  That, too, I'm afraid, would be a PCMCIA card.  It would seem to 
me that there may be still a need for the PCMCIA slot.  I conclude, then, that 
the 
PCMCIA slot most certainly needs to be retained.  Thanks so much!!!
