"virtual circuit has been reset by the remote side" means that the mPower, BrailleNote or PK you're using can't connect to the PC.
Check that activeSync is running on the PC and that you can see the mobile device under the "My Computer" folder. It sounds a bit like you might be asking the BN to "synchronize" instead of "connect to activeSync". Synchronization is the process that keeps your Outlook appointments and contacts the same on your PC and BN, and activeSync is the Microsoft utility that allows you to transfer files back and forth.
