Hi Kathleen;
You can use an sd card just like you can a cf card.
The difference is that the sd card can be locked with a little switchy thingy 
so you don't accidentally write out stuff or get stuff in you don't want.
It is also much smaller than a cf card, but can still hold almost as much data.
I think people who use digital cameras really love them because of their small 
size and the fact that you can write-protect data by flipping the little switch 
thing on the side of the card.
Sd cards may soon take over a large part of the flash memory market, though I 
suspect both will be around for a while before one takes over.
