I don't care what you call them, folder or directory. All I care about
is how they work and what you can do with them.

Although I agree that having a better designed file manager is
paramount, I vote for calling folders directories. That is what they
are. But then, I'm an old DOS fan, and for me, directories are it.
Folders, directories, it doesn't matter about the name, I do think
you're write that things like being able to open files while in the
file manager are paramount.
