Karen,
This is Joseph. Did you checked the card's properties
under Windows? If you have, than it should have
reported something like "489 MB." I think this is
because of the following:
1. You need to format the card with FAT file system (I
don't recommend using FAT32 because the log file take
considerable amount of space and the total size is
reported incorrectly.). Then it'll tell you the
correct amount.
2. Operating systems like Windows CE reports card
capacity using what is known as binary prefix. So, for
example, a 128 MB CF card may contain approximately
128 million characters. Under Windows, it is reported
as "121 MB" because it uses binary to calculate the
amount, versus the amount of characters. So your 512
MB card may hhave 488 MB of storage (if you check with
Windows) or something like 512274488 characters (under
KeySoft). So it depends on the operating system. (I
personally have a 1.0 BG Sandisk card. Under Windows
XP, it shows that the total capacity is 977 MB. Under
KeySoft, it shows that the capacity is 1024655360
characters.) I hope this information may clarify your needs.
