When there are computer braille symbols in a document, they must be surrounded by codes which indicate they are to be translated as computer braille and not grade 2. Whoever created the files should have known that. Duxbury always translates everything into grade 2 braille unless codes are there to indicate a different grade of braille.

Subject: [Braillenote] braille translation question

I wondered why symbols like tilde, backslash, and I think greater
than, are spelled out. I noticed that about the bookshare translator
also and don't know why it wouldn't just put in the symbols.
