Jeff, I am asking this in Kathy's behalf, because she won't see the digest version of this until this evening. She was able to use her cell phone with 5.1. Now that she has transplanted to the mPower, her cell phone isn't working.

Thank you for the response.

Subject: RE: [BrailleNote] MPower and the cell phone via serial

Hello Kathy:

The keys to using your cell phone with the BrailleNote family are
A> its
ability to act like a modem (Which most modern cells can do), B>
the ability
to find and connect a serial cable to the phone and C> to be
able to find a
serial cable that will work between the BrailleNote and your
particular cell
phone.

I found mine by plugging my cell phone's manufacturer and model
number into
Google and then looking for a site with accessories for it. I had
to call
several 800 numbers to find the right company. There are lots
of USB
cables out there, but you'll need a 9 pin serial cable with
whatever
connector exists on the phone.

After that, it's just a matter of setting up the correct settings
in the
Directory Of Services on the BrailleNote. I used this type of
setup to
travel across the country a couple of years ago and was very
pleased with
it. It's much easier than trying to use infra red while in a
moving car.
If your not using GPRS, then you'll want to make sure you have a
good strong
cell signal when doing a data call. Let me know if I can give
you any more
information.
