Hi Kathy,

The instructions that involve the use of the Read key are most often used while
in the word processor. In this case, your VN is in edit mode. When you are in
Keymail or the Book Reader, the VN is in Read mode, and this is where the read
key is not necessary. I can't tell you how many times I have been in the word
processor, forgotten I wasn't in the Book Reader, and pressed an f to find
something, only to realize that all I have done is put an f in my document.
What I needed to do was press Read with f. If most of what you do with the VN
is read, then I can see why the Read key would seem superfluous, but it is
extremely necessary while writing and reviewing a document.

I hoped someone else would answer this one, as I'm sure my answer is lacking
some elusive piece of information, but I hope it makes at least some sense.

Sarah

I mentioned this before, but didn't get an answer. When I am reading mail or
other pages, the read key seems to be unnecessary. Why do instructions tell us
to do two-key-commands when all you need to do to read the document is hit g or
use the u,i,o,7,8,9 navigation keys? The read key is rarely necessary for
commands where it is indicated. Find likewise in a document is just f, then f
or b and then the phrase you're seeking. Is my vnqt posessed or do they all
work this way and are the instructions overkill?
