You would be right if you save as a braille document but as a text document, the format stuff is not there. I've done this hundreds of times. Once I have the text document, I then translate back into braille.

Save or export your word file to a text document. This usually gets rid of the garbage as well as formatting but that's the breaks. I often convert a word document to text before translating into braille and this saves much unnecessary work.
