Dear Jim, The parallel port is really the best and I don't blame you for not wanting to use the serial port.
My embosser has a 9-pin female plug so the Mp's cable should work. I think it has the male 9-pin plug. I might experiment for curiosity's sake, but I prefer the parallel port, too.
