I think you're a little confused. The term "line break" means the BN has created a "soft return." It's symbol on the braille display is computer dollar sign l. A "new line" means the BN sees a "hard return" just like it does when you press the enter key.

When you open a .brf file, you can choose "paragraph mode" or "line mode." In "paragraph mode," you will only see a new line indicator at the end of each paragraph in the document. "Line mode" has new line indicators at the end of each braille line.

You can set your options permanently by going to the "ASCII Translation menu." You can import the .brf file into KeyWord braille and it will appear according to the default settings.

But if you open the .brf file, then you will be asked "review the options." If you answer "yes," you can manually choose paragraph mode or line mode. If you say no, the file will automatically open in paragraph mode, even if you have set the default in the ASCII translation options to "line mode." This is important for people who write a line of words followed by a line of music because you don't want to see words and music on the same line.

There are other things I could mention, but I'm afraid I've confused you enough already.

Subject: [Braillenote] replacing "line break" with "new line"

Hi,

I pasted my phones file that I had created with my braille lite into a new key word document. The carriage returns made by the braille lite show up as "line break" in the keyword document. If you have a carriage return in a key word document it shows up as "new line". I assume the keyword document's linebreaks are equivalent to a carriage return linefeed pair whereas the braille lite only recorded them as carriage returns. Is there ' way that I can do a find and replace, replacing all the "linebreaks" with "new lines"? Thanks.

Pam
