Hi everyone,
I am wondering if anyone is experiencing a strange problem I am having with
my BrailleNote BT32 in displaying Rich Text or (RTF) files. I am currently
using Keysoft v. 6.11, and my BrailleNote BT32 is almost 3 years old and
other than this file reading problem all is working flawlessly.
Some RTF files work just fine, while others do not, as you'll see below.
I have been taking my quizzes at school using my BrailleNote because
there is no computer in my classroom where my colleagues and I are taking
our networking security essentials class. My instructor puts the quiz on a
Compact Flash card and I use computer Braille to write out the quiz. I then
either print out my quiz on a printer, or give the flash card back to my
instructor who can print and/or grade it electronically. I also read my
text books with the BrailleNote using this method, the text books are in
Microsoft Word files and so far, there have been no problems in reading or
transferring files.
However, within the last couple of weeks, when I try to read a quiz
saved in RTF format, only the first five or six lines on the quiz are
displayed, and the rest of the quiz file is missing. If I give the flash
card back to my instructor, he can bring up the entire file intact with no
problems. If he saves the file as a straight text file, I can read the
document just fine. At this point, I am attempting to find out how the
quizzes are saved to my flash card, for example, whether they are scanned in
and saved as RTF using a scanning program like Omni page. I have asked that
these files be displayed as text and not saved as an image file. I have
also attempted to determine if someone is typing them in directly by ahand
using Word or some other program. Normally, my school uses Office 2000. I
know at least in my version of Office at home, which happens to be Office
2003, that there are two RTF choices when I save a file. I have experienced
the same problem with RTF files at home but normally I simply re-save them
in text or Word document format if I cannot read the entire file. However,
sometimes at school RTF is the only file I can get my hands on. If anyone
could give me some steps to try, it would be most appreciated. I reiterate,
it seems that no data is lost in the actual file because it can e read on
the computer, but for some reason, the BrailleNote cannot read them after
about six lines of text.
Thanks for listening, and I look forward to some interesting
discussion.<smile>
Thanks to all of you and have a wonderful day!!
Beth
