Are you asking for the mechanics of connecting your BrailleNote to your
computer via ActiveSync, or are you asking if you need to do anything to
the Word file before you can read it in the BrailleNote? The answer to
the second question is, no, the Word file will read just fine in the
BrailleNote. You'll get a prompt that says "This is a text document.
Computer Braille is required." (that's if you have a BT keyboard.) If
you want to edit the file in the BrailleNote BT, you have to write your
edits in computer Braille.

As far as ActiveSync goes, someone else can fill in here, since I
haven't done this for a couple of versions of KeySoft. But when I did
use ActiveSync, I went to Microsoft's web site and downloaded the latest
version of ActiveSync and installed it on my computer. It will put an
icon for ActiveSync on your desktop. When you want to move files from
the BrailleNote to the computer, you connect the two (probably using a
serial cable); then you start ActiveSync and tell it to connect. The
BrailleNote sounds a little chime when the connection is made. With the
connection made, you can go to My Computer or Windows Explorer on your
PC, and the BrailleNote will show up as "mobile device" in the list of
drives--A for your floppy drive, C for your hard disk, D for the CD, and
whatever else you've got. Then at the bottom will be "mobile device."
Select your Word document by navigating to the folder and file where it
resides, but don't open the file. Copy it to the clipboard and then use
the Arrow keys to navigate to "mobile device." From there, find the
folder on the BrailleNote where you want to put the file and paste it.

If any of this is unclear, let me know. If anybody sees gaps in these
directions, feel free to chime in. It's been awhile since I did this.

Just as an aside, I find that using a compact flash card in the
BrailleNote and a card reader/writer on the computer works much better.
ActiveSync can be temperamental at times.
