Dear Kathy and All,
It looks like I won't be able to emboss with my Mp, either. I don't have
the right cable for the serial port. My Everest-D uses a 9-pin female plug
so I need a cable which has a 9-pin male for the embosser and a 9-pin female
for the Mp.
This is disappointing and unsatisfactory to me. An adapter probably doesn't
cost that much, but the point is we were assured we could get a USB to
parallel converter that would work and we weren't told it would be so
expensive. After paying $2195 plus tax for an Mp transplant, I don't think
I should have to pay another $200 for a USB to parallel converter. And I
really don't like the serial port option.
I'm anxious to hear how Jim fares with the infrared to parallel converter.
I would also be interested to know how much the bluetooth to parallel
converter would be.

Subject: [Braillenote] embosser-printer interfacing revisited
Hi, Jim and List,
It is confusing to try to state correctly how many pins, and whether male
or female, when discussing ports and cable ends and adapters, but I tried
when speaking with Office Max the other night.
This afternoon we looked for gender changer adapters, and would have had
to buy two packages, to get what was needed.
I asked about the possibility of a cable with USB one end and parallel the
other to use with my mPower and printer and embosser. Well, I bought it
for $30, and immediately I plugged it in here at home it reported card not
recognized.
As you may well know from experience, when the mPower says this, you can
do nothing but reset, it just beeps at you when any key or combination of
keys are pressed.
Nothing worked. I plugged in the cable with the machine off as has been
suggested on the list, didn't matter.
Guess I should have bought the gender changing adapters also, to try with
the cable which came with the mPower. Tomorrow. We've already been out
quite long enough on this busy Black Friday!
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving yesterday.
Kathy
