Hi Dear,
That simply means those books which no longer have a copy right on them.
They are available for the reading and no permission from the author or
publisher is needed to put them in an accessible format so that we can read
them. Bookshare needs to pay a fee in order to have a copyrighted book put
in their collection. So when a book isn't copyrighted, it is put in the
public domain or public collection so to speak.

Hi,
You only need a membership with BookShare if you get copyrighted
books. The books that are in public domain can be downloaded by anyone.
