I have been successfully using the MPower with my Nokia 6620 running Talks
and Cingular GPRS for a few days now and it is working very well. The
connection speed is about the same as a regular modem. I understand that the
Edge service will provide faster speeds in certain coverage areas. I do not
have Edge in my area so I can not confirm this.
It is easy to set up your MPower (and, I suppose the PK) to use your
Cingular phone as a Bluetooth modem. I spent considerable time talking to
Cingular and doing Google searches in order to put together what turns out
to be pretty simple instructions. Cingular will insist that you need to run
their "Connection Manager". Of course, this program will not run on the
MPower and, you do not need it.
What you do need is Cingular GPRS service and a phone that supports GPRS and
Bluetooth. I have the Nokia 6620 running Talks which works very well. You
will need to configure the phone for GPRS service. The easiest way to do
this is to ask Cingular to text message you the GPRS Configuration. They
will give you a PIN number to unlock the text message. Once you save these
settings to your phone you are ready to go.
Next, activate Bluetooth on the phone. On my phone it is on the Connectivity
menu under the Bluetooth item. Select this and it should say "Bluetooth
Off". Press select to turn Bluetooth on in the phone. The next thing is to
turn Bluetooth on in the MPower. Select Bluetooth from the
Options>Connectivity menu and activate it. Now, select "Search for Devices".
Your phone should appear in the resulting list. Press enter on this item and
then press enter on the Modem item on the "List of Services" menu. You
should now be prompted for an authentication code. Enter any short numeric
code you like and press enter. The phone will now prompt you for the same
code. Once entered on the phone the MPower and phone should be "paired".
You will now need to select "Create a New Dialup or LAN Connection" on the
MPower's Options>Connectivity menu and enter a few settings. Set Device to
Use to your phone, the phone number should be *99# for GPRS service, the
username is [EMAIL PROTECTED] and the password is CINGULAR1. The username
and password are all caps and the same for everyone. You can now connect to
your email or keyweb as you would with any modem connection. You may be
asked by your phone to confirm the connection from the MPower. Press "Key 1"
to select OK.
I tried to make these instructions as brief and accurate as possible. It may
help to listen to Jonathan's audio demonstration on the Humanware web site.

incur additional charges on your wireless bill. I can not be responsible for
