Amen to that!

Well, if your wife is going to sign you up, then she should probably
do it. The sign up process is a three step one.
A. You have to fill out the application that is on the web site and
agree to the Terms of Use and all. I signed up during the Beta
period, so I hope fervently that the agreement isn't fifteen pages
like it was before.
B. Next you write to or call your regional library in Arizona and
tell them you want to sign up for Bookshare. They will send a form to
Bookshare that states that you are signed up with them, are an
American Citizen and that you really and truly are blind, cross their
heart and hope to die! (Why anyone would want to pretend to be blind
is beyond me...)
C. Then you pay your money and you are given a password and so on.
Your userID is your email address, and they will give you a password.
You have to have the password or you can't get the copyrighted books.
> 2. Can I sign up using the BN?
Yes, you can, I believe. I didn't so can't speak from experience. I
think everything should work OK. If not, you may have to use a PC,
but it should be fairly straight forward. I'm sure they've simplified
things since this old bard signed up years back!
> 3. What's the cost?
The cost is $50.00 per year plus a $25.00 set-up fee. In other
words, your wife will have to spend $75.00 on you. You better finish
up that Honey-do list pronto!

Dunnow about that one, Frank, not sure.
> 5. Ones I'm a member, how do I go about downloding books?
That's easy. Since you'll be using the BN, you don't have to worry
about downloading the unpack tool or the reader. So, here's a
thought. Why not download one of the public domain books, just to
see how the process works. But here's a brief description of what
happens.
A. You log in to bookshare at the login link. Once you've done that,
you either go to the search feature or to one of the lists and choose
the book you want.
B. Once you've chosen the book, you go to the more info link, there
will be two links on that page, one for DAISY format and one for BRF,
format. Choose the BRF one.
C. Press enter on that link. Follow the prompts. Voila, you have
your book.
D. After the book's been downloaded, Launch the book reader. find
the book
in the folder you told it to be downloaded to and press enter on it.
You'll be asked for your password. If it is a public domain book,
just press enter on it. Follow the prompts. Happy reading.
