Hi Terri, I couldn't agree with you more! Often the fact that Braille and print have some important differences in terms of format requirements are completely overlooked. I have seen some amazingly poor Braille in my life, and sometimes I'm willing to live with it, but not when it comes to a manual for a blindness product. I've seen some restaurant menus which were quite poor, but I felt that at least I could order dinner. But again, if a manual is being produced for a population where many read Braille, then let's hire someone with perhaps an NLS certification or an equivalent from another nation who knows what to do when it comes to Braille!

It doesn't seem as if it was proofread to me. There should be a different manual for Keysoft 7. Let's hope HumanWare does a better job with this one. It should be translated and proofread by people in the U.S., U.K., Australia and New Zealand. That way, the rules for braille in all of the English-speaking countries would be followed. And, for crying out loud, if they're making the manual from Word, turn off the "smart quotes." The smart quotes are really dumb quotes because they produce the wrong symbol for quotation marks and the braille copy will produce wrong ones, too! And all of the URLs and email addresses should be in computer braille! There's no excuse for poor quality braille. Terri, Amateur Radio call sign KF6CA. Whether you are using M-Power or the classic? : 2. Will the added material in Keysoft Version 7.0 require learning new stuff? : I would agree with you that the quality of the Manual should be of the superior. I just wonder if the Manual to which you refer was proofread? Could some of the problem stem to the way it was transcribed? : (Since he's mentioned embossing the Manual, I'd be curious to see what Jim has to say about this subject.) : KC : : ___ : To leave the BrailleNote list, send a blank message to : [EMAIL PROTECTED] : To view the list archives or change your preferences, visit : http://list.humanware.com/mailman/listinfo/braillenote : : : __________ NOD32 1.1325 (20051215) Information __________ : : This message was checked by NOD32 antivirus system. : http://www.eset.com : : ___ To leave the BrailleNote list, send a blank message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To view the list archives or change your preferences, visit http://list.humanware.com/mailman/listinfo/braillenote
