Hi, Pam,

Since I do not uise Outlook, I use this method all the time. It's easy and reliable.

There is another way to transfer files, some might think it the easiest way, through a compact flash (CF) card. It is easy, if you have a CF reader on your PC, & CF cards can store a lot of data.

So, you have three alternatives.

Hi Don,

What do I have to do on the pc to give the braillenote permission to
access its files once it's connected into the network? I'm using
windows 2000.

Think I'll start hitting the braillenote manual in anticipation of an
early Christmas. I'll probably get the mpower in a week or two. Can't
wait.

Hi Pam,

That's great about going for the braille display. The display on the MPower is really good and I don't think you'll regret the extra money.

As for transferring files, there are two basic ways you can do that. One is to install a program on your pc which will most likely be on the CD you receive with your MPower. It's actually a program from IBM called activesync and allows for the transfer of files among other things.

The other way is to get a connection to your pc over a network such as through an ethernet or wireless ethernet card. With this method you really don't need any external programs on your pc except for the network connectivity which you undoubtedly already have, especially if you're running xp.

You just establish the connection over the network and then you use the file manager on the braillenote to move files to or from the braillenote from the pc.

If you take the activesync approach, you would perform the file transfers from the pc side of the connection.

This is a brief and somewhat incomplete explanation, but maybe it will give you an idea of how it all blends together.

Don
