Hi all,

Our Ambicom wireless card is ordered and should be here any day after
tomorrow. I want to succeed in getting this working where I've failed
previously with other products. (This is largely due to my lack of
knowledge on WIFI and attempting this when I couldn't really appreciate
the layout of a page I was working on.) . . .. However, I really do
love the way the BrailleNote asks very simply (step by step) for the
information it needs so I'm much more confident this is going to work.
I have a slightly convoluted setup at home, mostly put together by those
friends who have added to it as needed for me; so, when it comes to
checking the settings I'll have to know about, I need some guidance to
find these as I know they're all contained in this metal box down here
on the floor! In short I have a PC, Linksys hardwire router and a Cable
modem. To this a Linksys Access Point has been added so as to be able
to go wireless without going totally wireless at this time.

First, I know I can check all settings in the router setup but can't
remember how to do this. If anyone can help with this preparatory step
I'd be most grateful as I want to try to get the settings together
before I start the process. In addition, I suspected the wireless
connection originally made had been spoiled at some point when I was
unable to connect wirelessly to other equipment, so the other day I just
made another simple connection on the computer using the Wizzard and
once again now there's the little WIFI sound as though everything's
actually working. (Does this sound encouraging?) I know too that there
are commands within DOS that I can use to check my current setup. If
these are going to be helpful to me, to establish that everything is
working correctly before I start, I may need guidance on these.

I have read in the mPower manual and on list that you can make a WIFI
connection either by making a new one or looking for an existing
connection. The latter would possibly be much easier for me to achieve,
if a connection is found, but I get the impression that, if this is to
be a main connection, it's best to start from scratch and make new. If
anyone can enlarge at all on the pros and cons of these two methods
before I begin the process, I'd be most grateful.

Sorry I need so much "hand holding" with this but I've had a number of
failures because I've taken instruction from those who know what they're
doing but haven't been able to communicate well to me so that I've
really understood it and taken it in. I feel I'm now beginning to grasp
what I'm about, so please bear with me on this.

Finally, I know these subjects are often discussed online so if anyone
feels they want to take this up off line and guide me through the
process then that's fine by me.

Thanks in anticipation of additional help with this.
