Hello Lisa,
Downloading large mp3 files on your BN sort of depends on file size and
which version of the note taker you have. Jonathan said that the new
mPower units can download large files because they rewrote the download
manager code to avoid using the KeySoft system disc for the temporary file
storage area. On the pre mPower units, even if you specified a location
other than the KeySoft system disc to put the file, it was temporarily
stored on the KSD during the download process and them copied to the
specified location. On the older note takers you are therefore limited to
whatever space is available on the KSD, generally not much more than six
to seven meg maximum, and sometimes much less. There are some mp3 files
floating around that would fit in that size space but I suspect most are
far to large to get unless you have the new mPower unit or a separate
computer. I ran into the same problem with my old VoiceNote and am
currently waiting for the new VoiceNote mPower unit to arrive so I can get
past this problem.
As far as the other technical questions you asked about, Jonathan
mentioned in a recent message the supported bit rates were a multiple of
some number, which escapes me at the moment. Maybe he or someone else can
repost that information. I believe most of the download music sites which
sell music tracks use some kind of copyright protection that most likely
will not work on our notetakers but will stand back and see if someone
else can add to this information.
By the way, I noticed in your message header that you are still using the
old Pulse Data list address, which still currently works. No telling if
this will continue from now on but you might wish to switch to the newer
HumanWare list address given below:

I switched your Pulse Data list address in the header for the new one.

    Hi Everyone,
I posted about this yesterday but didn't receive much for responses.
I don't have a PC. I just use my BN. Presently I don't have any
compact flash cards or a disk drive. I don't have any way to store
the Mp3 files. I'd be willing to download
one file and delete it. I don't want to harm the Keyword files on
my BN. If downloading MP3 files onto the BN is dangerous for the
unit please tell me. I'm looking for feedback from the people who
    will know technical knowledge about
downloading MP3 files using the BN. I was wondering about
    downloading MP3 files for music
files. I'm not sure how to get signed up with one of those paying
services for this. Here are my questions. I hope they make sense.
    1. Can I safely download MP3 files onto the BN from the Internet?
If yes are there any trick to this?
    2. Are there any Web sites anyone recommends for downloading MP3
    files to the BN? Why?
    3. I understand the BN only accepts certain bits or something not
sure of the correct term. What is this specification and how do I
know if the MP3 files I'm
    downloading
have this? Do the files list that info before being downloaded?
Any information anyone can give me would be wonderful.
I just want to take advantage of the media player. However if I'm
going to endanger my unit by taking this risk please let me know.
Thank you for your time and your help.
    Have a great week everyone.
    Lisa
