Hi Sam,

You haven't asked a stupid question.  It really depends on the firewall you
are using.  It may indeed, be necessary to have these ports open so both
Activesync and KeySync work as expected.  You would need to consult the
firewall documentation so you are in a position to determine what is being
blocked, both externally and internally  and what isn't.  From this
information, you will obviously be able to see whether it is necessary to
have all these ports open, though if things aren't working right when these
ports aren't open ... you have your answer!
