Peggy, There are two cords involved; one of them plugs into the laptop or 
notetaker at one end and a sort of box at the other end. The box has a cord 
that plugs into the wall socket. You fit the two cords together and voila! 
somebody who knows can tell us all what the box does.

I can't picture what a two-part adapter would look like.  Can someone 
describe it?  I wonder if I'll get one when I get my transplant.
