..It would take a long time tjo explain. The encoder itself is open source, that is, able to run on any type of computer platform, if someone complies it to run on that platform. So you need to find a piece of software that has that encoder packaged with it. Somewhere there's a program that's specifically intended to save MP3 files at different bitrates that's jsut the encoder with a dialogue box, and that's called a front-end. Or you can jsut grabb Goldwave at http://www.goldwave.com and get the encoder from there, as it's rather small and is free for thirty days. Hope this helps, I didn't mean to confuse you. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Katie Frederick" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Or, you can look for a windows front-end for the lame MP3 encoder, which is
a lot smaller, does the same job, and is free. It may take some fiddling
though depending on what you find.

Hello Katie,

In order to compress existing audio files, you would need to obtain an
audio
editor such as Sound Forge. There are a number of these types of programs
out there so I would recommend that you do a search on the net for sound
editing programs. You need to be able to save the files to which you want
to listen, in one of the supported audio formats on the mPower.
