Thank you Donna. More often than not, Rhonda is right. She's the only person "I Know" who has completely read all the manuals and can go to the section that will answer your questions. If she is not sure, she checks before suggesting anything. Also, "TO MY KNOWLEDGE" she and seville Allen are the best and most patient teachers of this technology.

Terry,

No, with the NLS site, you do not have to unzip the books, but
Rhonda was talking about Bookshare, which is a totally different site from NLS.

And Rhonda is correct.

Donna

Sarah;
Please get me strait. What is Rhonda talking about? When we
used the NLS
site, we did not have to deal with unzipping the file, that I
know of.

Hi David: This is regarding your Book Share query.
When first downloading from the site, bookshareddorg books are
"packed" in
to a special compressed format that has a .bks extension,
regardless of what
book format you have chosen. Public domain books have a .zip
extension
after the .bks extension. Once the book is downloaded, it is
then possible
to "unpack" it from .bks file in to its normal format such as
brf or.4txt.
Once this is done, you can then delete the .bks file
All bookshare.org books are password protected. You need to
enter your
password to unpack the books. Books that are in the public
domain, (out of
copyright), don't require a password even though the prompt will
still come
up. You can just press ENTER, or enter your password. Books can
only be
"unpacked" in KeyBook.
1. Go to KeyWeb by either pressing I from the Main Menu or,
BACKSPACE
with ENTER with I anywhere. KeyWeb will prompt you for a URL.
2. Select Bookshare from your favorites. Navigate to the
Login page and
log in using your member details. You will end up in a
personalized welcome
page.
3. Locate the book you want, ensuring it is in a supported
format, and
download it to the folder and drive of your choice.
 To "unpack":
 1. Go to KeyBook by pressing BACKSPACE with ENTER with B.
2. KeyBook will offer you the folder in to which you
downloaded the book
as default. Press ENTER, and you will be offered the book as the
default
file. If you've downloaded several books, the last one is the
offered book.
To select the book, press ENTER.
3. KeyBook prompts: "Folder for unpacked bookshare books?"
Press ENTER
for "My Books." Either press ENTER or select another file
location.
4. You will be prompted for your bookshare.org password.
Tyype it in,
and press ENTER.
5. The book will unpack. There will be some progress beeps.
When
complete, KeyBook prompts: "Delete original packed bookshare
book?" Press Y.
If the book format is not supported, KeyBook will tell you at
this point
and return back to the Main Menu.
