Okay, here we go.: Your starting address is where you are, so turn on the GPS and make sure your tracking a good number of satellites. Now, there are several ways to create a root and several types of roots you can create. You can create a manual root, which is good if your in a pedestrian area such as a confusing neighborhood. This is good if You want to go exploring. You can create a vehicle root for traveling in a car or bus. The main thing you need is a starting point and an ending point. As I said, the starting point is where your at with the GPS running. The end point is a destination and that is what your going to set. You can also play with the GPS in virtual mode if you wish. I can give more instructions in a later date. The following are two made up examples so just go with me here. If your confused, contact me off list if you would like. Example 1, a vehicle root: Lets say you want to go from your house to the grocery store. Well, turn on the GPS and make sure you have a good satellite track. Now, your in the car and lets say you know the address of the store so you set the address by hitting space with s for set address. It asks for the state, then the city, then the street number and rest of the address. Hit enter and it finds it, then hit space with d for destination. The BN says destination set. Then you hit r then v for vehicle root, it says root creating and you hear swishes, after it finishes the root, travel on it, it will tell you where to turn and if your off root. You can have the look around mode set to tell you when your near POI's and intersections. You get there and it says arived at your destination. To save it hit r then save and save it like you would do a normal BN file. When you get back in the car, hit r then o, open the root then hit r then r for reverse root and make sure your destination is set to your home. Do this by set address, or if you created your home as a POI then search for your home under POI, set it as a destination and take off again.
Example 2, pedestrian root: Lets say your at home and you want to walk to the MC Donalds which is in walking distants. Lets say you don't know the address. Go out side your home, make sure your tracking satellites and do a space with dot four, type in the info you want to search for, or if you can't spell MC Donalds, under category search, hit either restaurant or fast food. It finds it, hit space with d then hit r then p for pedestrian root. Start walking. If you have look around mode set to show all intersections and POI's, you'll get that info announced. While walking, if you want to drop some way points along your audamatically created root, go ahead. You can name them then describe them such as slight bend in the road, or four way stop, or next to a stop sign. Put something that is a permanent land mark to help you. You'll also receive a warning off root message if you get off root. When you arrive, it will say arrive at your destination. Save your root and then go eat. Notes: These were just a couple of examples how to create two simple roots. I didn't cover manually creating roots or the virtual mode. I recommend riding in a car and playing with the GPS while traveling so you can get a feel for it. I also recommend exploring your area and playing with roots in virtual mode. You can create any root virtually and save it, when the GPS starts up, you can follow that root. Go to GPS, then hit G to start GPS, then hit v to get in to virtual mode.
