The USB cable doesn't have anything to do with compactflash cards. You can use the USB cable to run ActiveSync and move files around between PC and "mobile device" that way, but in order to access and manage compactflash card files on your PC, you gotta have a compactflash card reader/writer. It's like a floppy drive, kind of; it's the device that holds the compactflash card and shows it as a drive (mine calls it E) in Windows Explorer on your computer. Mine cost about $15. It does attach via the USB port on your computer. In Windows ME, 2000 and XP, mine installed without a whimper, but in Win98 I suspect you'd have to install the driver from the CD that comes with the little critter.
