Hi All, As a user of both products as well, this often tends to get confusing for me, too. For, both units seem to have system memory, as well as flash disk memory.
Anyway, when using the PAC Mate, when I have occasionally let the battery go flat, and left it for more than that 72 hours, the unit has indeed been set back to factory defaults; and, had I not had a backup of everything that I could restore from, then I certainly would have had to put back all my user installed files and programs and settings. And, too, when there is an upgrade to the unit, then I have to put all these back as well. Now, the only thing I haven't yet tried, as guess it wasn't available when I first got my PM BX, is using its internal flash disk. No, one couldn't save settings and the like there, but one could store files there, and I just haven't tried that to confirm they would still be there indefinitely after a battery goes flat, although it is my understanding from others that they would be. And, for that matter, I haven't tried installing programs there, or even know if they can be. But, on the other hand with the BrailleNote PK, when the battery has gone flat, or when I have done a hard reset, all my files in the flash disk, as well as all my settings have been retained. Well, actually, I have had to reset the date and time and re-establish my ActiveSync partnership, but everything else I can think of has remained in tact, right down to my cell phone connections and personal files and all. It is still kind of confusing to me, though, as to just what is saved where on the BN. Seems like, and I of course would appreciate being corrected if I'm not understanding correctly, that any user settings, like for connection or Braille settings, must then be stored on the flash disk, so they can then be easily retained in just the circumstance we are now talking about. And, although one can put their own files on the system disk, rather than the flash disk, that is kind of discouraged, as they would be lost as well upon the hard reset or the battery going flat. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rhonda Clark" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Braillenote List" <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, July 23, 2005 9:52 AM Subject: Re: [Braillenote] MP3 books Kathy, the PacMate will store its information for 72 hours after a battery goes flat.
