Thanks. Yes, it's new for me but you're further along with it than I
am. I understand the concepts, it's just what to buy. Smile. Then
I'll find out that I really don't understand anything.
I think I'll start by trying a simple file transfer. Smile.

Hi Jean,
Don can help a lot more with this so he will elaborate I'm sure. I'm
just now getting into all of this myself but I know that in addition
to the wireless card for the mpower, you'll need a wireless router
which hooks up to the network card on one of your pcs. As I said in a
previous message we're all hooked up to the internet, but figuring out
this file sharing among computers has my head spinning at the moment.
Good luck to you as we plunge into new deptths here.

Hello Don
Can you please explain a bit more about a Network connection with
Windows XP? I've been a happy mPower user for almost a week and
haven't
quite got the nerve to try connecting to the PC yet. Are you saying
that Windows XP Home already has networking software? If that's the
case, then all I would need is a wireless card for the BN? Or can this
also be done with the USB cable? Of course I'd rather go wireless, but
I'll work with what's already here first.
I've read the chapter on connections, etc., but I just want a bit of
clarification on what Windows XP already has for connectivity software
before I go further and maybe buy what I don't need.
So far I'm very impressed with the mPower.

Hi Pam,
That's great about going for the braille display. The display on the
MPower is really good and I don't think you'll regret the extra
money.
As for transferring files, there are two basic ways you can do that.
One is to install a program on your pc which will most likely be on
the CD you receive with
your MPower. It's actually a program from IBM called activesync and
allows for the transfer of files among other things.
The other way is to get a connection to your pc over a network such
as
through an ethernet or wireless ethernet card. With this method you
really don't need
any external programs on your pc except for the network connectivity
which you undoubtedly already have, especially if you're running xp.
You just establish the connection over the network and then you use
the file manager on the braillenote to move files to or from the
braillenote from the pc.
If you take the activesync approach, you would perform the file
transfers from the pc side of the connection.
This is a brief and somewhat incomplete explanation, but maybe it
will
give you an idea of how it all blends together.
