Hi Jonathan,

The first setting has been at low and medium. Usually that setting defaults at medium. I usually use 8 bit on the second setting. I have checked the level settings on both units and my wife's unit records just fine on the default settings. My unit on the other hand sounds as if I'm talking through wax paper or one of those silly gismos that one would hum into and the sound is very fuzzy! If I record at default levels, I can't understand myself at all, the audio is fuzzy. The recording is reasonable at level ten but don't know if it would be considered as the best the M-power can do when recording regardless of sampling rates etc. I was hoping someone else experienced this similar situation and someone knew what to do to cure the problem. I should probably fix it while under the first year warranty I suppose. It isn't a debilitating problem since my unit functions just fine for the most part. It is more of a neusance since I need to remember to set the record level to ten after a four five six reset. If I don't do so, I will have a crummy, fuzzy recording and I won't be able to hear my important information I thought recorded okay when it actually didn't! I do know some like me who aren't all that familiar with digital recording had some complaints early on but didn't hear much about it after I got my unit. It could be this is something that isn't right with my particular unit but then there may have been a number of units out there with my same problem. Was curious to see if others did in fact experience this same recording situation.

Thanks again for your thoughts!

Jim

Hi Jim, the first thing I would check is that not only the recording level
is the same, but also the sampling rate and bit depth. 8 bit files will
sound a lot poorer than 16 bit files. If you have the settings identical,
then you may indeed have a hardware issue.

Hi Dean and Jonathan and other knowledgeable persons on this matter,

When I first got my M-power, I complained that when I tried to record using

the default settings, my recording sounded as if I were talking through wax

paper, I couldn't understand my own recording. I thought my audio recorder

wasn't working properly till I set the level from the default 12 to ten. I

then could understand my recording but I still don't think it is quite
right. My wife's m-power works just fine at level 12 and her recording is
good and clear even at the poorer quality settings. I still think my audio

recorder has a frying sound in the background. Should I do a 4 5 6 reset,
the settings go back to the default where I get the fuzzy, sounding
recording i can't understand. I need to be certain I set the record level
to ten in order to get a proper recording. Might this be a software
problem or do I have some component problems with my unit? I do know others

have complained about this as well and decided as I did perhaps that I had
to set my record level to ten in order for the BN to record audio
properly. My serial number is 40470. Has this been investegated?

I'll be happy to send you a couple of audio attachments to show you this
problem. As I say, my wife's unit works properly at the default settings
where mine does not. Do you have observations on this please?

Jim Aldrich
