Perhaps we can explain this.
The Europeans will get a good laugh out of this.  At least I hope so.  When my 
friend Ellen wanted to learn French, I wondered why it had to be so 
complicated. Why couldn't she just learn the French alphabet and type from 
there in English? (I was about 8 years old when I thought about that.)Of 
course, now I now know that everything isn't based on English braille. I also 
kno that the word is not the thing, although monolinguals think so.  So why is 
it a surprise when they think of braille in the same way?
 (I work in Spanish, and have studied French and German).
