This is one of those situations where I have to say that a slate and
stylus or a Braille writer are the thing. No technology will always
work, and just as sighted people still rely on pens and pencils
when all
else fails, we must rely on technology that will usually work, like
slates and/or Braille writers. Certainly, I understand
frustration, my
Braillenote crashed on three separate occasions, and I lost most of my
data the first time. I purchased a cf card, so the next two crashes
weren't nearly as devastating. However, no matter what kind of
technology you have, failure is lurking, whether we know it or not.
Look at it this way, you could have been a resident of New Orleans,
kind
of makes a dying Braillenote pale in comparison, eh?

My BrailleNote was gotten for me in 2001. The Braille display is
much
worse thushy, it's gone! I mean, I can't even get the exercise
option to
work in support mode. Looks like I will have to send it in now.
And I
don't know how
i'll manage with Math! I just don't know! I have no backup.

Hi Jane,
How old is your BN? My older BN which is almost four years old has
braille
display issues but i exercised my display with options, spacebar with
I,
then X. This of course is a BT keyboard. There are times my old
display
feels mushy on my old unit and when I exercise the display, it
usually
comes to life. Of course, dots five and eight in cell eleven are up
all
the time so there are display issues with my old unit. My M-power is
still
quite new but the display is very nice on that unit.

Hi Everyone,
Apologies in aadvance if I don't catch all my mistakes, even with
spell
checker.
I now have to use my BrailleNote's speech much more than the
Braille
display. It's gotten to the point that I only dine use it for Math
and
some occasional light reading. Everything else, like e-mail, I have
to
use the spech for. I am really frustrated with this! I don't know
what
caused the display to start going faint and then disapearing. It's
been
doing it for a bit, I guess, not sure how long. I'm hoping I can
make it
last till December, otherwise I am in deep trouble.
Any suggestions on any stopgap measures or things I can do to keep
it
going for now? Anything at all???
Jane
