I've not seen the MPower, but I'll tell you what is strange to me.
Generally, a battery will have a "battery low" at around 3 to 13
percent.  I say it like that, because everyone's machine has it's own
personality.  However, it used to be at about 3 percent.  Even at the
"battery low" point, you should be able to work a couple of hours.  I
would have a hard time believing the battery gauge would be inaccurate,
since you just got it.  Generally, when you shut down totally, it's
after the "battery critical" reading.  I'm just really surprised.
