Hello all,

The problem that you experience sometimes is the list itself. You are bound to hear more of the problems that a product might have than you will hear how well things are working with that product. One really must keep a good perspective and understand with the ever changing software, it is sometimes hard to keep up with changes. Remember, a 7.0 upgrade has been promised for all units which may solve a number of issues. Keep in mine that one's cup is either half full or half empty! It really depends on one's own personal outlook on the situation.

It is true my M-power has a minor problem with the record feature but I don't use that much and it does work! The audio streaming is superb and more MP3 files as well as the .wav files now can be played. The older units can't play .wav files nor do they have a record feature. . All flash cards I had, my 1 gig thumb drive and my new SanDisk network card plus flash card work wonderfully in my M-power. That Wi Fi card won't work in my older unit though! Yes, I still need to find a way to get my M-power working with my braille embosser but that will happen! The Microsoft Word Problem was an issue with the older classic units and still may be an issue today. If one has a PC, they can convert those Microsoft Word Files to an older version of MSW, or they can convert those files to .rtf and read with the BN or M-power. One may be up a creek if one doesn't have a PC. I for one have encountered very few Microsoft Word Files I couldn't read.

You can cry in your beer and be left out if you like and that is truly your choice! Not everyone is experiencing every problem you read about on this list. We might be having one or two of these problems but not every one of them that you see memtioned on this list. I can't sing the praises of my BN long enough or loud enough! I marvel at how short a time it took to transfer the Bible from one conpact flash card to another! It was ten or fifteen seconds if that! I have an older BN and I can run it beside the M-power and there is no comparison! The people at Humanware are listening! They can't always talk about what is in the wings due to listening compeditors etc. I've had a BN for four years now and have seen many improvements in this product from when I first bought one! I would say there are problems with any notetaker out there on the market if that is what you are looking for! Just remember! You are the one that is missing out on a truly wonderful product! Go ahead and miss out if you wish, but I'm truly enjoying mine!

Upon hearing about the Braille Note Mpower, I was very
excited, and have seriously considered purchasing one
for some time. After reading the list however, I have
felt more discourage for a few important reasons. The
first of these involves the new unit, whether it is a
transplant, or a completely new one's ability to lock
up for some unexplained reasons. Just today in fact,
someone posted about her Braille Note locking up after
she received an attachment, which she could not read,
because the unit claimed it was not a valid word for
windows 6.0 or word 97 file. Does this also mean that
Word 2003 files are not supported? This is only one
instance of the unit locking up, but there have been
others mentioned, which are unexplained. One of these
occurs, when the braille note will not accept
peripherals such as micro drives. From negative micro
drive experiences that users have had, the use of the
PCMCIA card slot will cause the unit to lock up, and
in some cases, cause a reset loop. When asking about
peripherals, and their compatibility with the Braille
Note, there are severe limitations, and no real desire
on the part of people from Humanware that I have
observed to expand it. This lack of enthusiasm for
expansion extends not only to peripherals, but to any
limitation that is mentioned concerning the Braille
Note Mpower The most recent example, is the person who
asked about being able to pause a recording, and
resume in the same file. The answer was no, but that a
new file could be created. This could have just been
an idle question, but it is something which would be a
usable feature for people to have. There was no
promise to look into it farther. I realize that this
unit is new, and therefore, a lot of improvement is to
be had. It will not be perfect, but taking suggestions
or questions from users seriously, instead of
deflecting them with a band-aid-like solution is quite
discouraging.

Sincerely,
Kim
