I am not going to debate laptops and note takers, but good luck with
Dell. They have been having a lot of out of box failures in both desktop
and laptops. In fact, I know of a company that recently took delivery of 15
systems and all, but 3 worked. You might be becoming much more familiar
with Dell tech support than any Humanware customer will with HW tech
support... Maybe, when you explain that you can't get on the Internet
because something is not working, they will offer to email you a patch file
like they did for my brother...

Subject: [Braillenote] Top 10 things to do while waiting for your MPower
ortransplant

We all know how hard it is to wait for that new Latitude D610, so here are
the top ten things you can do to help fill the time.

10. Take your cane for a walk again...and again.... and again....and again
and relax knowing that you'll soon have a computer for which you can go on
even longer walks, especially since you bought those two extra spare
removable batteries.

9. Rearrange your office and the rest of your home to best show off your new
Latitude D610.

8. Take your mPower to a meeting or class and take notes with it, so you'll
always be near that outlet which you are going to need in a few minutes.

7. Learn to sing the Dell song in multiple languages (How do you say "That
is what I'd truly like to be" in luthawainian??)

6. Paint a large L on your chest and practice running into rooms saying
"I'll soon have a Latitude with Attitude!"

5. Make prank phone
calls to Humanware tech support telling them all the things the Latitude can
do but the mPower can't.

4. See how many times you can say the word Latitude in everyday
conversations

3. Arrange all the stuff you can plug into your new Latitude in a pile, but
do it in alphabetical order.
Now let's see: A for any programs you already have and use which run under
Windows.
B for battery. That's right, you can even plug in two so you'll have that
spare all ready to go when the first one runs down C for car or airplane
adapter. Even if you do manage to run down all your batteries, you can use
your air/auto adapter to keep you going even longer, whether in a car or
airplane.
DVD/CD combo drive. Play all your favorite CDS and DVDs from your internal
combo drive. And R for record, since you can record on D Ds or CDs as well.
Sorry the R is out of order, but it was just begging to fit right in there.
E for Epson Scanner. Plug your Epson or any other USB scanner in to your
Latitude and scan while on the go.
F for Floppy drive. Use your internal floppy drive in instances where you
need to transfer or store small files, or use it with a boot floppy in
emergency situations.
H for hard drive. Your hard drive is easily removable in case you ever need
to replace it.
I for internal modem.
J for just about anything. For with your Dell Latitude D610, you can do
just about anything. You can play all kinds of streaming audio, Play all
your favorite MP3 and audible files, record whatever you want using your
favorite software whether it be APH Studio Recorder, Goldwave, or Sound
Forge, just to name a few.
K for keyboard. If you don't like the keyboard, plug in an external one.
M for Memory: You can add all the memory you'll ever need and you can even
use USB memory drives such as Corsair, Sandisk, or other brands without
worrying about compatibility. Same goes for memory cards.
P for ports. Check out all these ports!
     I/O Ports
Bullet Serial (DTE): (one) 9-pin connector; 16550-compatible,16-byte buffer
Bullet Parallel: (one) 25-hole connector (unidirectional, bidirectional, or
ECP) Bullet Video: (one) 15-hole connector and S-video out connector Bullet
Infrared: one port compatible with IrDA Standards 1.1 (Fast IR) and 1.0
(Slow IR) Bullet Audio: microphone-in-jack; stereo headphones/speakers jack
Bullet 4 USB 2.0 compliant connectors Bullet Docking: 280-pin connector for
the Latitude D/Port-Family, Advanced Port Replicator, or D/Dock-Family
Expansion station Bullet Modem: RJ-11 port Bullet Ethernet LAN: RJ-45 port

2. You won't have to figure out how much you can afford to bribe the UPS man
and Dell tech support to get your unit done and delivered faster, because it
comes directly to you from Dell in good ole Texas.
Right there, you've just paid for those two spare batteries. And if you
ever do need service, you can arrange for it to be repaired right at your
location.
and the number 1 thing to do while waiting for your new Dell Latitude D610.
1. write an unusual post to the Braille Note list and hope Dean doesn't
moderate you. And I've just done what you suggested.

Keith
