Does this mean that since they don't have an SD slot that their only option will be to purchase SMA's on media rather than electronic downloading? Or is their upgrade from 6.11 to 7 handled differently than M-Power users? I've decided to go with the media SMA and receive the appropriate media to install from. This issue does seem confusing, and HumanWare Sales, as well as technical support reps had difficulty answering my queries about this. This is because we are polling one slot when the unit turns on for a card containing a new rom image, and that slot is the SD slot. If not, are SD cards the only way one will be able to install the update? I opted for a downloadable version SMA, but don't own an SD card. KeySoft 6.1 was unique, because before its release, customers could only install updates on their flash disks. That is to say your version of KeySoft that shipped from the factory would remain in ROM. BrailleNote would look for a newer version on the flash disk, and if it existed, would use that. This wasn't practical for version 6.1, because we upgraded the operating system. At the same time as we updated the operating system, we also took the opportunity to introduce new boot loading technology, which now allows customers to burn their own ROM image. This means that precious flash disk space is not being wasted on newer versions of KeySoft, and it also means that any major changes in the future, like operating system upgrades, will be much easier to do, provided of course that Microsoft allow us to do them electronically. Bottom line is that it is unlikely that any versions of Keysoft in the foreseeable future will require physical media. If they do, we'll make sure those who elect to download their updates aren't left out in the cold. Speicifically on version 7, the update will most definitely be doable electronically. You will need to do this from an SD card, so make sure you have one. We'll give people the info they need closer to the time.
