Hello Matthew,

Thank you for supporting my choice of using mPower and Maestro with Trekker for two very different purposes. Yes, Maestro is totally different and is not meant to be a power-house like the BN family, but yet it will provide that quick bit of access and functionality in a very small package. And since it is in its infancy in development, I'm sure much will be done to increase what it can do. I'm very interested to see its continued development along with Trekker.

Jean

Hello Jean,

You are quite correct when you suggest that the BrailleNote and Maestro products provide different levels of functionality for perhaps different
users with different needs.

While Maestro is under quite active developement, and has a rapidly growing feature set, it is not intended to serve the same purpose or in any way replace the extensive and powerful functionality offered in BrailleNote
mPower.

We are delighted to be able to offer such a range of tools and solutions to our customers, allowing them to choose the product that will best serve their information access needs. Maestro could very likely be the ideal
solution for a person needing to quickly reference some piece of
information, or quickly confirm an appointment from a tiny device that
comfortably fits in their shirt pocket, while BrailleNote mPower would be ideal when reviewing, editing, and composing complex documents in any grade of braille, or surfing the internet with the powerful, yet intuitive and streamlined access in speech and braille that the KeyWeb browser provides.

Hi Andy

Well, you certainly have a point, but let me give my side of it.

First, I didn't choose the PK for other reasons, so a small unit for GPS
is still apealing. For my lifestyle, I don't invision taking the BN
mPower with me outside much. So, size of the Trekker PDA is important.

Last I checked, the Sendero GPS Canadian maps didn't include points of
interest. A company rep, I forget who or where from, said they were
working on that. Based on that, I figure that the Sendero Group GPS
focuses largely on American maps.

I listened to Mike May's car demo and it drove me crazy. Too much
information. Smile.

GPS with the BrailleNote has never been demonstrated or promoted
anywhere near me. It's all been Trekker. Now, is that because Sendero
Group has poor Canadian maps, or focuses strictly on the American
market? I don't know. In fact, our local agency for the blind, CNIB
doesn't even promote the BN much. They try to steer people to the
PacMate.

If I skip Maestro, which I agree is kind of a joke right now, the basic Trekker is a lot cheaper than the Sendero Group GPS. At least I've seen Trekker and know the maps work, etc. for my area. I can't say the same for Sendero. It's all about marketing and company presence. For the few extra hundred bucks, if I did get Trekker, I may as well put Maestro on
it for the bit of functionality it would give me as a pocket device.

Now, if you have some constructive or enlightening input, I'd be glad to hear it. But not all market development is given the same priority, and
Canadian maps seem to have been an afterthought by Sendero.

For me, they would be two devices with two very different purposes.

Jean

Why would you want both? Your BN can do everything the other product
can
do, and do more of it, and do it better. The Gsendero GPS system is
far
superior to that of the Trekker, and the Maistro, well, that's nothing
more
than a bad joke.

I'm still waiting for my mPower to arrive, but I do apreciate that
Humanware
allowed me to substitute the new machine instead of the old one that
had
been shipped just prior to the new release.

I'm also considering getting a Maestro with Trekker, once they have
the blue
tooth stuff worked out with that. Since these are both Humanware
products,
can someone tell me if they can be cinked together for file transfers,
etc.?

Jean
