Because it was a compactflash card, usually only hardware is insured. Amazon doesn't absorb the cost of shipping. They make it up in other ways.

But Amazon ETC. absorb these shipping costs and the insurance costs as well. And, as far as I know, there was no insurance on my 6.1 upgrade. ____________________ Skype: rustyperez Yahoo and AIM: reliroo Check out my blog at http://rusty-perez.blogspot.com -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Sarai Sent: Monday, September 12, 2005 12:59 PM To: 'Braillenote List' Subject: RE: [Braillenote] Gouging the blind community Uh, No, shipping costs have gone up especially due to fuel costs. Shipping for everything isn't absorbed by product price charges. They also insure the product when shipping. They won't charge your card till the work is done but will take your number down. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Rusty Perez Sent: Monday, September 12, 2005 2:28 PM To: 'Braillenote List' Subject: [Braillenote] Gouging the blind community Hi folks, I just called to get myself on the transplant list. I would have done it sooner, but I was under the impression, given to me by a customer service person, that they would charge my card immediately, not when the work was done. Anyway, I got myself on the list, but I was surprised that I would be charged $45 for shipping. I was charged $15 to ship my keysoft 6.1 upgrade, and that was shipped in a completely non secure padded envelope, not weighing more than maybe 12 ounces. So, what's the deal here. If I by over $25.00 worth of stuff, Amazon gives me free shipping. So how come Humanware can't ship for free when we blind folks drop $2000 or more on their products? And they're probably going to resell my old BN classic and make more money! You'd think they'd at least fold the cost of shipping in to the total cost of the product, making themselves look magnanimous, and better than the competition. We'll all even have to pay to ship our old units back in. It's a bit obscene to me. If I asked for upgraded shipping, I'd understand; Amazon charges for that. There's nothing to be done about it, this is pretty much a closed market and we can't go any where else, but down, but I just want to register my disgust. Unfortunately, it didn't work. I went through the stepts as you outlined. Before though, I didn't get the network connected. That is, I didn't "turn on" wireless. So, things started just beeping. Then, I figured it out. After that, I started the wireless. I know because I'm able to surf the web. But, when I try to "brouse network" I just get endless beeping. One possibility could be that maybe I misbrailled the user name or password. Is there a way to change or check this? Thanks! I'm using a BN BT w/ 6.1 and an XP machine with Jaws so my instructions will be for that Machine. You also need your user name and log on pass word, as well as your server name. Your server name is found under settings control panel, system and then shift tab to computer name and use Jaws cursor to read the needed info. Now that you have all your info, do the following: 1. Select network from the drive list 2. At network place, hit space twice 3. Press enter on browse entire network 4. At the network server prompt, type in the name, make sure its spelled correctly. 5. If your computer asks you to log in, here is where you type in the name and pass word. Don't forget to use compute r Braille 6. Press space with e and it will ask to save password or user name. 8. Then you will be asked to update the log in info. If yes, then you'll get a warning about saving it , but if you say yes then you won't need to log in again. I said yes because I['m connecting to my personal PC. 9. Now you can type in the name of the network folder, or hit space to search for it. On mine, I see something like shared documents. 11. You'll hear network place and then the folder name. Either type another folder name, or hit enter. Now your in the same folder structure as normal. 12. Now you can access it now that you have everything set up. Hope this helps. Make sure your wireless card is in and wireless is on. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Rusty Perez Sent: Thursday, September 08, 2005 1:11 PM To: 'Braillenote List' Subject: [Braillenote] Braillenote and networking Hi folks, I'm new on the list, though I've had my bn for a long time. I'm just beginning to use the BrailleNote wirelessly. I have a wireless home network. What I'd like to do is create files on my BN, then save them to another machine, the only other machine, on the network. Then, of course, edit them with the other computer. Now, I understand that I must save in word format ETC. What I'd like to know is how to configure things so that the BN will see the disk on the other machine so I can save to it. Any thoughts? Thanks!
