I'd say if your internal microphone sounds fine, you are good to go. If any mike you use requires a battery, that's the one to use. If your headset mike does not require a battery, then you will need to find a mike which does. As I say if the internal mike is fine, then that's what I'd use for the time being till you wish to do more serious recording.

Jim,

I used your directions to check my unit also since I am still new and
haven't quite tried everything yet. When I recorded using the internal
mic it seemed fine. However, when I tried out my mic headset there was
a considerable amount of hiss. The voice was very clear but it hissed.
In the manual, I noticed it said to use an "electret" mic as opposed to
a dynamic. How do I know what mine is? I bought it two or three years
ago for the computer and it is a Logitech. Would this be the mic or
some setting that I need to change? I don't necessarily need to know
the settings since I am not ready do any recordings but just wanted to
know if it is a setting, a mic problem, or a problem with the BN.

TIA,
Cindy
