Hello Jane,

Authentication will supply the SMTP server, the same credentials that you
use to login to your Pop3 account.  Authentication is required on most SMTP
servers if connecting from an external network as this helps prevent people
generating SPAM when they are not entitled to use the server, thereby making
the Internet provider also pay for unnecessary and unsolicited traffic.
