HI, graham Did you have headphones on at the time? The headphone cord acts as an antenna. Of course, it also depends on where the FM transmitters are in relation to you. Unlike AM which goes line of sight, FM waves are vertical,so you need a lot more transition power (and usually that means more transmitters, rather like cell phone repeaters) to get the same result.
