This makes my day one less device to carry on the subway.

Hi terry, DAISY playback is a first, and extremely high priority for us.

DAISY recording may come some day, but DAISY playback will come first.

Yes I understand that however what if you wished to record your meeting
as I do and index it for further reading? Of course if you never plan on
giving us the ability to create daisy then it's a Moot point anyway.
Of course when I wrote the note I conveniently forgot I had played MP3
files my only excuse is its early on Monday laugh.

Hi terry, DAISY playback is a completely different issue from MP3
recording. As you know, the BrailleNote already plays MP3, so there's no
relationship between any MP3 recording capability we may add in the
future and DAISY playback.

Andy:

If you want in the future to support Dazy your going to have to solve
the MP3 problem. You can't have dazy then tell users o yes but make sure
your library uses wav they don't all do that.

If your other product namely maestro can support this then there is
really no reason why HumanWare can't its weather you think being able to
read dazy books or record meetings classes conferences is important
enough. More and more people are on the move these days and if HumanWare
doesn't want to solve this then someone else will. Personally I am
getting tired of carrying a dazy a BrailleNote and who knows what els.

Hi Rusty and list,

I've had a look at mp3 recording and it appears to be technically
possible to do (we seem to have enough processing power), although not
at an amazingly high quality. It would be great for recording classes,
for example, you'd get about 10 times more recording time. And we could
probably do a high quality mp3 compression but not in real-time. I can
send an example mp3 of some compressed speech if anyone is interested -
just email me off list so I can reply directly to you - I'd like to hear
if you think the quality is acceptable, and how useful it would be. The
lowest quality one sounds much like high-quality synthesized speech to
me.

But there's still a lot of work to do and it may turn out to be a lower
priority than some of the other work we're doing. So don't get too
excited yet ...

regards,

Andy.
