In all the times I have had to do a reset because I let my battery go flat, I have never seen this behavior. This is the first time it happened to me. I am also inclined to think it is rate. But thank goodness for backups.

However, if you have a compact flash or SD card, do regular back-ups. This is a good idea on any computer. But we are also keen to do what we can to ensure data integrity.
