Terry,

When you do a full backup, every folder and file on the flash disk is copied to
your card. If you do an incremental backup, only the files that have been
modified will be re-copied, along with any new ones created since the last
backup. An incremental backup is copied to the same folder you originally used
for backing up. Here's an example.

You make a backup, and instead of letting the BN name the backup folder with
the date as it wants to do, call it "backup". (I know, very original.
<Smile>) After waiting a minute or two, the BN will announce how many files it
has copied. The number might be 150, just for instance. It could in actuality
be much smaller or larger.
So you decide a day or two later that you want to do an incremental backup.
You go to the utilities menu, choose backup, and press "i" for incremental
backup. It will ask you where you want to put your backup, type in the same
name you used last time. When it's done, the unit will announce something like
"14" files copied. This means that you only modified or created 14 files since
your last backup. Everything from the original backup is still there, only the
new or modified files have been updated.

Let me know if that makes more sense.

Sarah

Sarah c.;
Can you explain the difference betwence between the two back ups? Does each
incramental backup have all your files or just the ones you worked on. If it
is just the ones you work on, sounds useless for revising your files. You
would not get all your files in the last backup.
I hope I am misunderstanding something.

Terry,

KS 7.0 is stored on the Keysoft system disk, there's no need to back that up.
Your flash disk contains, along with any personal documents you may have
created, your databases and games. When you back up the whole flash disk to
your CF card, you ensure that if you lose a document or if a database gets
corrupted, you can replace it. I do incremental backups every day, and I no
longer worry about losing files or Email because I messed up my database.

HTH

Sarah

Irene;
Is flash disk taking everything off the unit and copying it or is it just your
files. I just got my MPower and want to put all my files on my cf card. Will
flash disk include 7.0?
Thanks.

Hi Angie,
You have three options. Let's talk about the backup options first which
are in your utilities area.
As Joseph has mentioned there you will have the option to either backup
fully, which you must first do if you haven't done this before.
Go to utilities, pres b, your bn will prompt do you wish to back up or
restore files? You then press b again. Bn will then say back up which
drive. You can at this point press f for flash disk. It'll then ask make
backup on which drive? You can then tell bn to do the backup on the
compact flash card if you have one. Bn will ask which folder, I
generally choose none and type that in, just because its easier than
going through the tree view whenever or if ever I need to access these
backed up files. You from there should be able to follow the prompts, if
there are no backed up files in your none directory, you will get no
prompts. When You want to do the process again next week, go to
utilities, press b for backup, and rather than pressing b again, press I
for incremental backup.
Now you mentioned you wanted to backup your CF card? The best way to do
this is by using active sync and backing it up onto your computer. If
you don't have one of those I'd get another compact flash card and then
back up the original cf card onto the new one with a PCMCIA card reader?
I think that's what they are. You can slot your card into this and pop
it into the PCMCIA slot.
I hope this helps.

Irene
