I have a laptop and its internal mike is not so great either...
so for that I still use for external mike. I wish I would have
had this unit in college, I was a music major and had to record
all of my lessons and rehearsals... this thing would have been
so much easier than the old tape recorder I had. I only
graduated in 2000, and yet I feel like the past 6 years, things
have come so far for the blind.

unfortunately the mPower does not have an automatic gain
control on the
microphone input - that means that you may need to play with the

level manually. For instance, if your internal microphone

is set to 8, try reducing it to 6 and see if it improves. This

something clever in software to simulate an automatic gain
control. Again,
I'm not sure when it will make it into a release, since it will

of testing, and it's pretty subjective.
It may be worth trying an external microphone for recording,
which will
almost certainly be a lot clearer, not being stuck inside a case,
picking
up keyboard noise, and so on. Mr Mosen recommended a nice
external
microphone a few months back on this list I think ... and I know
lots of
people on the list make recordings all the time.
I tried recording some guitar on an mPower the other day (not in
work time
I hasten to add) and I'll try with an external mic this week, if
I can
find the adaptor I need. The recording is certainly better than
I've
managed on my laptop so far.
