This is Joseph. BNS used dot 4 to indicate that a certain line or a
character should not be translated. For that particular character, press
dots 4-5-6, then press dots 3-4. Or, press gackspace with j to enter
computer braille, type slash, then press backspace with b to return to grade
2. I hope this information may help you.
P.S. I believe with September 20, 2000 update, BNS now has its own
translator.

Subject: [Braillenote] entering braile characters on the bn

Hello All,
I have a very simple question. I want to enter characters such
as slash while I am working in grade 2 braille in a document. or
maybe I don't want s t to be read as street in certain
situations. I remember the braille n speak use to have something
called do not translate. But how does the bn handle these
situations. Thanks.
