Subject: [Braillenote] goodbye Dean

It is with a heavy heart that I say farewell to a young man
who became a personal friend and BrailleNote confident during the
past year.
Dean allowed me to vent my frustrations with him about aspects
of the BrailleNote operations that I did not understand and which
were causing me unbelievable headaches. At his own expense, Dean
would call me from New Zealand to personally walk me through
solutions to the problems I had and was unable to find an answer
for. Many, many times over the past year, my phone would ring
and Dean would be on the line with an additional work-around to
my problem, eventually solving it completely by working with Mr.
Mosen and Humanware's engineering staff. Dean understood that
many of us who use Humanware products as a means of
communications, were not computer literate and like me, did not
even own one. He talked with me off-list and via phone from New
Zealand to help me with problems I could not wrap my mind around
because the solution suggested a personal computer would be
required. I remember having to ask him to slow down as he spoke
with me, because in his excitement at his solution or work-around
to a problem, his New Zealand accent was undecipherable to my
mid-western American ears, and with a laugh, he would speak
slower and the conversation would end with me having a new and
workable understanding of my BrailleNote.
It will be very difficult for Humanware to find a replacement
for Dean, because his patience and helpful demeanor made it
easy for anyone to listen to him and follow his advice. He never
made people feel foolish or stupid about questions they asked.
He was courteous and generous and was willing to share his
knowledge of a product he loved with the people he knew were
using it. I know that I, as well as the Humanware family, the
people on the BrailleNote list, and his many, Many friends will
miss Dean as much as his immediate family will miss him. With
everyone who knew, respected, and loved Dean, I would like to add
my condolences to his family in this time of their great loss.
Dean, I know that you will join all the other commendable
people who made a difference in the lives of others when you
arrive in heaven, and God places you at His right side.

Sammie Clay
