This is Joseph. I'm not sure about the first one, but on the second one, there is a solution. JAWS 7.1 has changed the drivers a bit - now it allows you to have ports beyond com4. I'm not sure how to set it. Also, it is recommended that you use Microsoft's own drivers, not the driver of the manufacturer for compatibility reasons.
